Drill and practice Vocabulary mastery (mufradat) Arabic language learningAbstract
Vocabulary mastery (mufradat) is a fundamental component in Arabic language learning; however, in practice it remains a major challenge for junior secondary students due to the lack of systematic and sustained practice. This condition was also found among eighth-grade students of MTs Mu’allimin Mu’allimat Sunan Drajat Lamongan, who demonstrated low vocabulary mastery and limited pronunciation accuracy. This study aims to examine the effect of the drill and practice method on improving students’ Arabic vocabulary mastery. A quantitative approach was employed using a One-Group Pretest–Posttest design. Data were collected through tests administered before and after the treatment and analyzed using a Paired Sample t-test. The results indicate that the mean pretest score of 67.71 increased to 79.29 in the posttest, with a mean difference of 11.57. Statistical analysis revealed a t-value of 6.44 with 34 degrees of freedom (df = 34) and a significance value (2-tailed) of < 0.001, indicating a statistically significant difference between pretest and posttest scores. These findings demonstrate that the drill and practice method has a significant effect on improving students’ vocabulary mastery. Therefore, this method is effective for Arabic language learning, particularly for materials requiring memorization and pronunciation accuracy, and can be creatively developed to support engaging and sustainable learning.
